OpenVPN GUI Installation And Usage Guide (Windows)

A VPN makes browsing the internet and web tasks completely anonymous so your IP address is not visible by anyone and all of your traffic is encrypted.
The software does not come built in to any operating system but it but can be installed very easily on all popular operating systems including Windows, Mac, etc.
The protocol is very fast and stable, when connection problems appear it is very unlikely to drop connection keeping your privacy and security. There are currently no known vulnerabilities which ensures your data is safe and protected from anyone snooping.
This guide is based on setting up OpenVPN GUI on a Windows PC, the first step is to install OpenVPN GUI this is the only version which will connect to our servers because we are not running an OpenVPN access server.
The latest version of OpenVPN GUI can be downloaded here.
Once this program is installed you can proceed with the setup.
In your seedbox download folder there will be a folder named OpenVPN like displayed in the image below. If this folder is not present in your download folder please contact support.

If you open the OpenVPN folder in the filemanager there will be an OVPN file inside, like displayed in the image below.

You need to download this file into the OpenVPN config folder on your local computer, the OVPN file will need to be place in the following location “C:Program FilesOpenVPNconfig”
The OVPN file contains all of the connection settings so once this file is placed in to the OpenVPN config folder you can connect to the OpenVPN server.
Start OpenVPN GUI and navigate to the icon in the bottom bar of your Windows screen and you will need to right click and choose the connect option.
Some customers have mentioned experiencing this error “error creating HKLMSOFTWAREOpenVPN-GUI key”
There is a bug in the OpenVPN GUI installer, OpenVPN GUI needs to be run with full administrator privileges, right-click and select “Run as Administrator”

Using Google Earth to zone your farm

Using Google Earth to zone your farm is a great planning tool.

Google Earth is a wonderful tool for planning your farm permaculture zones.  Its simple to use, yet powerful interface, can be mastered in a few steps and provide you with a map you can print or share online.

To start ….

Permaculture zones (0-5) are a great way to divide your farm up into “use” zones.    If you are not familiar with the zones, you can find my take on them here.
Google Earth is a free mapping tool that you can download for your computer or mobile device from here.

Using Google Earth to zone your farm – the steps!

Step 1. Finding your farm
Open Google Earth.  In the search box in the upper left hand corner, type in the address of your farm….then click search and watch it zoom in!  Google Earth will place a red pin and display the address of your search on the image.  You can zoom in and out and change the orientation using the zoom bar tools on the right hand side of the image.   To remove the red pin (which I find annoying) and address you just click the blue X under the search results box on the left hand side.  For now, zoom to a level so you can see the entire outline of your farm in the image.

Step 2. Adding the farm boundaries.
Google Earth has a tool bar that sits at the very top of the image.  You can hover over each of the tools and it will tell you what they are.  Find the Add a polygon tool and click on it.  A box appears in which you describe what feature you are adding.  In this case type ‘Farm Boundaries” in where it says Name (you may be over typing the words ‘untitled polygon’).  Click the box called Style,Color.  This is where you can change the color of your lines.  If you click the color box it will bring up a pallet that allows you to select the line color.  You can also change the line thickness etc.  You can come back and make changes later – so don’t worry if you don’t get it right at first.  I like to use yellow as my boundary lines as it shows up well against the image for my area.  In other drier and sandy areas, red is a better selection.   Change the Area box so it says just ‘Outlined”.

When you are ready to draw the farm boundary lines don’t click ok on the box!   Drag this box away from your farm image….just to the side so you can see the entire outline of your farm.   Click on any corner of your farm boundary on the image.  A small blue box will mark where you have clicked.   Move to the next corner of your farm and click.  A line will now appear between those two points.  Click the next corner and so on until your boundaries are complete.

Boundaries now complete. I used yellow and changed the line thickness to 2.
When you are finished, you can change the color and thickness of the lines.  When you are happy with your boundaries, then click OK on the box in the bottom right corner.
The boundaries you just added is a data layer that is now added to your image and you can see it in the Places box on the left hand side navigation.  You can turn it on and off by clicking the little box next to its name.  If you right click on the name you have some more options.   Get Info brings back the box so you can change the name, color etc.  If you want to do it again, you can delete the old one here too.
Step 3. Adding a zone.
To add a ‘zone’ is almost the same as adding the boundaries.  The difference is you want a shape rather than a series of lines.  It is still a polygon (so we use the same tool), but we set it up to be filled with a color.
So select the Add a polygon tool again.  This time change the name to the zone you are adding like “Zone 5″.  You could also use your own zone names or descriptions.  Select theStyle/Color button and change the color of the lines AND the color of the area.  I use a different color for each area.  Make sure the Area option is set for “Filled+Outlined” and set the Opacity to 50%.  That will allow the zone to have a color, but you can still see through it and see features on the image underneath.

Just like before, drag the box to the side then outline the shape of the zone you want to add.  If you have a zone that is spilt  – that is two or more areas that are separate but you want them in the same zone, you can set treat them as separate and just label them Zone 1 (A) and Zone 1 (B) etc and use the same colors and fills.
You will end up with a list of zones for your farm on the left-hand side navigation under the Places category – like this:

You can keep this in your Google Earth program and can turn on and off the zones just by clicking on the little ticks next to the Zones.

Once you are happy with your map, you can print it off, email it of save it as an image using the tools at the top of the image.
The super thing about this tool is that you can add more information as you go.  You can add detailed descriptions in the Zone boxes as well as small images that you have uploaded to the web.    You can even create an interactive tour video of your farm….but now we are talking fun rather than planning :)

Upside-Down-Ternet: Raspberry Pi Edition

I did a post on this a few years ago, here is an update for 2013. This walkthrough is based on the technique found here: http://www.ex-parrot.com/pete/upside-down-ternet.html

First the disclaimer: Do not do this to any sort of important computer or network, because it WILL break things. This is meant as a prank for home use only; such as confusing your brother, sister, kids, wife, etc… Doing this to a network you don’t own is a felony and could result in jail time and fines!

What it does

A small device (Raspberry Pi) powered by either a battery or cell phone charger is connected to your network in front of the intended victim’s computer, which will wreak havoc on your victim’s internet browsing. This method does not require changing any settings on any target computers. 
The instructions assume that the computer you want to prank is using a DHCP assigned IP address. If the computer is using a manually assigned IP address, the only thing that will happen is the internet will be completely cut off – which isn’t very funny. If you want to be really evil, you could put it in front of your internet router, causing all the devices that use your internet to be effected. 

How it works

The Raspberry Pi is configured with with a dnsmasq DHCP server which will assign downstream computers a new IP address and gateway. A squid transparent proxy is installed on the Pi where traffic is redirected using iptables. A redirection script uses mogrify to alter images and then re-hosts the images through the a web server. 

Equipment and Software

* Raspberry Pi Model B with Raspbian installed
* USB Ethernet Adapter
* CAT5 Patch Cable
These instructions assume that the Raspberry Pi is accessible through SSH, and also has access to the internet. Installing and configuring Raspbian is out of the scope of this post. If you need help, here is a great place to start: http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianInstaller

Prepare the Software

For best results, overclock the pi to 800Mhz, and set to memory split to 32 or 16MB. For some reason my raspberry pi wouldn’t boot when configured with 16MB. Also make sure that eth1 is configured with static IP 192.168.254.1.

Dnsmasq

Install with:

 sudo apt-get -y install dnsmasq
Add the following config to /etc/dnsmasq.conf to configure the dhcp server on eth1, which should be the USB ethernet adapter.
 domain-needed
 interface=eth1  
 domain=upside-down-ternet

 dhcp-range=192.168.254.100,192.168.254.200,255.255.255.0,12h

Edit /etc/sysctl.conf to allow the Raspberry Pi to act as a gateway router. Add or uncomment:

 net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

Type /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart and then plug a laptop into the USB ethernet adapter. You should get an IP in the 192.168.254.xxx range. At this point although the gateway should be reachable, there is no NAT configuration so you won’t be able to access the internet.

Squid

Install squid, iptables, and imagemagick:
 sudo apt-get -y install squid3 iptables imagemagick

Edit /etc/squid3/squid.conf and copy the text below. This configures squid to act as a transparent proxy with no caching. It also specifies a redirect script at /etc/squid3/upsidedown.sh.

Create a file iptables.sh and copy the text below:

Hit ctrl-o to save the file, then ctrl-x to exit. Now the file needs to be made executable and copied to an appropriate location.

Apply the configuration at boot:

sudo update-rc.d iptables.sh start 99

Upside Down Redirection Script

First make sure Apache and perl are installed:
 sudo apt-get install apache2 perl
Create a directory for the modified images and assign permissions:

Press ctrl-o to save, then ctrl-x to exit. Make the script executable:

Reboot the raspberry pi and make sure everything starts up automatically. Most images should now be shown upside down!

Nintendo DS ROM Patching Tutorial with xDelta

1. You will need a program called xDelta_GUI or other programs that can apply a patch.

Note:

– It’s not necessary to use this program if you already have a program that can apply patch. But this tutorial will be based on xDelta_GUI. (I use Windows XP. Not sure if it works with different OS though.)


2. The program in the above link is in .zip format, so unzip it first. (Use winZip, winRAR, or 7Zip.)


3. In xDelta_GUI folder, double click xDelta_GUI.exe. The program should start and look like this.


4. Click “Select Patch” button and select the .patch file. (I plan to name the patch file like: Tokimemo1Test-20100115.patch where 20100115 will be changed according to the release date.)


5. Click “Select ROM” and browse to your clean Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side First Love Plus ROM. (The clean rom should be 256 MB.)

Note: The ROM must have file extension “.nds”. If you download it as a .rar or .zip, etc. You will have to properly extract the file (with Winzip, Winrar, 7z, etc. program.) first.


6. Click “Apply patch” button and wait for a while. (It might take a few minutes, depending on your computer’s speed.) This program will make a new copy of patched ROM with “_patched” at the end of the file name. The file size of the patched one will change too.

(Note: The file size can be slightly different from what is shown in the picture.)


Note: In case “Apply patch” doesn’t work, you can try moving your .patch file and your game ROM to the same folder as your XDeltaGui and repeat steps 4-6.


Note: (Thanks to Kona) About xdelta_GUI. Apparently it wouldn’t patch the file if there’s anything foreign inside the folder which has both the patch and .nds (plus the xdelta programs). Foreign as in the folder having the picture of the game.


7. The one with “_patched” will be the one with English translation. (Your original clean ROM will remain the same.)

Note: The file with “_patched” should be around 190 MB to 210 MB. If you got 0 kb, you probably did something wrong.


8. A tip from GBATemp user, Glaix, in case all the above method doesn’t work.


“I found out the only way I could patch it was with xdelta GUI and the components in thumb drive and patching it like that on my computer. I couldn’t patch it alone on my PC, but I could on my DS and on a thumb drive. If that helps anyone.”

Super Mario Fusion V0.53

After almost two years of hard work, version 0.5 of Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is finally available for download.

IMPORTANT: There is currently one bug in the game that may happen if you’re using a 64-bit operating system. This may cause a few issues such as missing backgrounds or terrain in a couple levels, or, in rare occasions, crashing. We are currently working towards finding a solution to this problem. Until then, read the FAQ for possible solutions should you encounter this issue.

UPDATE: V0.53 is now available for download. V0.53 fixes a number of bugs and balance issues found in the v0.5 release. Unfortunately this does not fix the issues with 64-bit systems; we’re still looking into those.

1. Press Alt+F and scroll over Tools.
2. Go to Extensions and remove all undesired add-ons.
3. Click Settings on the left, under On Startup, select Open a page or a set of pages.
4. Click Set pages, remove the current home page address and enter your desired one. Click OK.
5. Under Search, click on Manage search engines.
6. Set any search engine as your default one, and remove the unwanted one.
7. Click Done.
8. Restart the browser.

How to Outline Text in GIMP

Step 1 Open up the GIMP if it’s already not open and create a new file. The defaults are ok for the purposes of this tutorial.
Step 2 Now using the  text tool (Shortcut: T), add some text to your canvas. I didn’t make the color of the text have too much contrast with the color of the background. We’ll make the text stand out by giving it a dark outline.
Step 3 While the  text tool is still selected, select the text you just created. Next, go into tool options and click “Create Path from Text”:
Step 4 Now create a transparent layer under your text layer. I called it “Outline”:
Step 5 Then go to Select > From Path (Shortcut: Shift+V):
Step 6 Next, go to Select > Grow and select the width of your outline. I chose 5px. After you have grown the selection, fill it with the bucket tool (Shortcut: Shift+B). Then press Ctrl+Shift+A to Select None and there you have it: outlined text!

Wii dual partition SD card WBFS partition for Homebrew

I have successfully done exactly what you have tried. I have 32GB Sandisk SDHC which
I partitioned into two parts by using the modified 

Windows 7 64x Hitachi Microdrive drivers.

Info on how to install them here.

The first part is 10GB FAT32 and I also formatted the second part into FAT32 (for starters).

Than I put some homebrew (like SDUSBLoader 1.5) into FAT32 partition and put the card into
Wii. It found nicely all my stuff on the card and I started HBC and then SDUSBLoader 1.5.
I selected SD/SDHC as a drive and it said “no wbfs, please format”. I pressed A and
it showed me 10GB and 20GB partitions to select to format. I selected 20GB partition
and after very quick formatting I just started to rip discs [IMG] Worked like a charm for me.
I can also use the FAT32 part with Windows 7 normally.

I’m going to give up this “one card method” though because it’s not very convenient.
1. Windows does not understand at all the partitioning -> Cannot use WBFS Manager.
2. SDUSBLoader (Channel) always proposes first “USB drive” as a drive and I have the
change it to “SD/SDHC”. Small issue but anyways.
3. All (currently available) Wii Menu shortcut game Channels can start games only from HDD.

I’m planning now to use my 16GB SDHC as a “HDD” i.e. use it via USB adapter for WBFS.
Then I’ll use this another 4GB card for homebrew and covers etc.

How to Make and Format Removable SD Card into two Partitions Windows 7 64x

I wanted to make two partitions on my Removable SD card in Windows 7 but windows only reads the first partition of a removable device.

After an afternoon of failures I have worked out how to flip the Removable Media Bit (RMB) on usb drives and SDHC cards under a 64 bit install of windows 7.

This is based off the Hitatchi Microdrive trick, but I found a 64 bit compiled version of the driver on some german site. I did not make this driver I just found it.

Instructions

Part A
First you need to find the name of your USB or SDHC device
run -> regedit -> navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001EnumUSBSTOR
find the key that matches your device. Right click on the key and click “copy key name”
My SDHC card plugged into a laptop card reader looks like “USBSTOREDisk&Ven_Multiple&Prod_Card__Reader&Rev_1.00”

Part B
unzip the files above and open cfadisk.inf in notepad.
scroll down to the section [cfadisk_device] you will see the line
%Microdrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install,IDEDiskTS64GCF400__________________________ ____20101008

delete everything after the comma so you are left with
%Microdrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install,
paste your device string starting from USBSTOR*whatever* into the line just after the comma, no spaces.
you should have something that looks like this
%Microdrive_devdesc% = cfadisk_install,USBSTORDisk&Ven_Multiple&Prod_Card__Reader& Rev_1.00
repeat this process for the section immediately below called 
[cfadisk_device.NTamd64]

If you are so inclined you can name your device at the bottom of the file by editing the text in the quotes in the last line after it says 
Microdrive_devdesc = “your device name here”
save the file, you now have a functioning driver.

Part C
You now need to install the driver
Open Device Manager, find your device and chose to update driver.
Tell windows you want to choose your own driver. Point it at your newly saved file.
Windows will bitch and complain that the file is not signed, and not a compatible driver. Proceed anyways.
Once installed you should see the USB device show up as a “Disk Drive”
Reboot

Note: When I rebooted the first time, windows would not load, this was due to the driver being unsigned. When booting hit F8 to enter the bootloader, and choose to disable driver signing. Alternatively you can disable driver signing by doing the following:

run->cmd.exe 
Now type the following
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
press Enter:
bcdedit.exe -set TESTSIGNING ON
press Enter:

When you reboot, you should find your USB or SDHC device listed as a fixed disk. You can now partition, make it a dynamic disk, install picky programs that wont run on a removable disk etc.
